Bereavment Grants
A Bereavement Grant is a payment from the government to help pay for the cost of a funeral. The grant is €850 and is paid to the person who was responsible for paying the undertaker.

It is payable on the death of a person who made PRSI contributions or was recieving a pension. For more details on the payment you can visit the governments welfare website here.


Obtaining A Death Certificate
Deaths which occur in hospitals are registered by the staff at the hospital.

Deaths which occur at home or at a nursing home should be registered with the local registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages by a relative of the deceased or a person who was present at the death.

The person who registers the death must have the Certificate of the Cause of Death and have it signed by the Medical practitioner.
